Digi completes its twitter campaign drive, a people powered demand for 4G LTE in Sawarak by adding the last two towns of Bau a gold mining town and Limbang to cap of their East Malaysia network coverage.
Bau is a small town off Kuching with population of slightly over 50,000 notably know as Sarawaks Gold Town, another little known fact about this place is it is also home to our national sweetheart diver, Pandelela Rinong. Limbang a district of greater Limbang is situated on the northern edge of the state bordering Brunei with similar number of residence.
Late last year, Digi made a declaration to it customers ‘You Tweet, We Build’ and put customers in the drivers’ seat to help rollout its network by nominating their towns to be the next in line to get 4G LTE with its #DigiWeWant4G twitter campaign which concluded in December 2015.
The campaign let customers highlight locations they wish to enjoy high-speed internet coverage by tweeting the hashtag #DigiWeWant4G and the location name. Digi then promised to expand its 4G LTE network to the top 10 most voted areas, in addition to its original network rollout plan.
Digi’s Chief Network Officer, Kesavan Sivabalan, said, “Bau and Limbang in Sarawak now join the list of towns in Digi’s rollout of 4G LTE after coming in the top 10 of our #DigiWeWant4G Twitter campaign. To date, we have deployed and switched on our 4G LTE infrastructure to serve customers in Setia Alam in the Klang Valley, the northern peninsular towns of Lunas, Batu Gajah, Jejawi and Arau as well as Papar and Tenom in Sabah. We’re pleased to be unveiling the people’s tower and powering up 4G LTE here in Bau and Limbang. We are looking to complete the tenth and final town, Simpang Renggam in Johor, in the coming weeks.”
Digi has increased its 4G LTE coverage to 58.5% of populated areas in Sarawak, in Kuching, its 4G LTE coverage currently stands at 88.14% of the population.
The networks 4G LTE network now stands at 72% population coverage, at 153 major cities and towns, with key market centres averaging 95% population coverage. On the LTE-Advanced network which can add speeds up to 150MBps, it has a 31% coverage footprint nationwide with Kuchings population coverage of 42.12%.
