Delivery Riders Beware! Weed In Roti Canai Package Is Just One Example Of How Dealers Get Creative During The MCO

The MCO has made life difficult for many Malaysian folk as the Covid-19 pandemic sweeps through the nation. In spite of these difficulties however, social distancing remains an essential part of flattening the curve. As Malaysians get used to this new normal and try to find ways to carry on with their lives amid the lockdown, so are drug dealers.

On Monday, a delivery rider who was on a delivery route felt something was amiss and decided to open the package. He found two packets of marijuana sitting in between two roti canai’s. Of course, he went straight to the police station to make a report.

According to the police report, an order had come through to send a package from Tropicana, Petaling Jaya, to Setapak. Apparently, upon reaching the Gombak area, the delivery rider was overcome with a bad feeling about the package and decided to open it, before going to the cops. While it’s kinda suspicious how he suddenly had a bad feeling, maybe the receipt on the order said roti ganja or something? Better safe than sorry, I guess.

This incident is just another occurrence of what seems to be the latest trend in drug delivery. In the past month alone, numerous delivery riders have been picked up at roadblocks when the package they were delivering turned out to contain stuff like ketum, syabu and marijuana.

This new method of delivery by drug dealers is incredibly selfish and puts innocent lives at risk. In one of the cases last week, a 39 year old delivery driver is now in lock up for what is being classified as drug possession under Section12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

This happened after the cops found an envelope containing a packet of 1.6g of a substance believed to be syabu in the item he was delivering. Investigations into the driver revealed that he had no prior record and his urine test also came back negative for drugs. In other words, he was unaware that he was being used as a mule.

Now, the dude could very well turn out to be a dealer who doesn’t do drugs and has never been caught but lets be real here, that’s highly unlikely. He’s just one of the many delivery drivers out there putting themselves on the frontline, looking to make a buck and what does he get for his efforts? Police lock up.

It just isn’t fair. To all the delivery riders out there, be like the guy who double checked on his delivery item. You don’t have to open up the package and check for yourself, but be present during the packaging of the delivery item so that you know for sure that there’s no hanky panky going on. It could save you some time behind bars.
