Death Note, a beloved and very creepy manga/anime has come back with a special one-shot manga by the series creators; Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The spin-off i just 88 pages and features a new character Minoru Tanaka as the latest to receive the power of the Death Note. As per normal manga tropes, his IQ is high but he isn’t very good at taking tests.

Ryuk then comes back to Earth to look for his next source of entertainment, and some more apples. The story is canonically accurate, as it takes places years after Light Yagami’s reign as Kira, who was thought to be a God to some and used the Death Note to mass-murder criminals. But now, the story is translated into the modern world, where there are security cameras abound and the internet can be used to track people by the police. It’s an interesting look into what Kira would’ve done in this world, but I’m sure he would’ve found a way to exact his ideals. Even Tanaka says so in the one shot.

The thing that really caught my eye was the fact that the President of the United States is included in the story as well. I mean, who would’ve thought? And of course, they depicted him as the current President, Donald Trump. While they don’t name him directly per say, it’s pretty obvious it’s him.
