A report from 9to5Google says that the days of Google Hangouts for users might be coming to an end sometime in 2020. While it was meant to be a replacement for Gchat back in 2013, the app has not been updated in recent years thus suffering from an identity crisis.

Hints by the tech giant was dropped by in April that it would be giving up on its very own consumer messaging app when it announced a new RCS Chat feature within Android Messages. The newly announced feature hasn’t been officially launched yet several reports indicate that the support for the RCS messaging will be arriving sometime early 2019.

Which makes sense as other reports point to Hangouts shutting down in 2020.

While this announcement might not sit well with frequent Hangout users, there are still more details that hasn’t been announced yet in regard to the possible shutdown. So, stay tuned, and we will keep you updated as more information is released!
