The brutality of the pandemic is laid out for all to see, not only has the coranavirus caused life’s of individuals it has also impacted livelihood and businesses in way unlike anyone has ever experienced.

Among the worst hit is the tourism industry, hotels have already indicated foreclosures with many more announcing their intentions to do so in the near future. Airlines are slowly beginning to fly their grounded planes, but without serious financial damage and staff reduction. Last mile operators who move tourist from one attraction to another, the bus operators are the latest on the long list of victims ravaged by the Covid19 pandemic.

The industry which operates over 10,000 buses plying from north to south is severely effected and is seeking government intervention before it collapses. With no income and banks chasing for repayment, tour operator WSF Travel and Tours Director, Wan Shairi Wan Ahmad is pleading the Ministry of Finance to ask banks to give operators moratorium on the bank loans. He also asks the government to use the buses for the students repatriation program. They foresee the situation to worsen as even domestically the inter-state travel is banned, hence no balik kampung this year as well.

Meanwhile GLX Travel and Tours Director, N Gunaratnam is still waiting for the PSU subsidy claim from Socso to get by the monthly overheads.
