CG Esports enters the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Academy League Malaysia (MAL MY) Season 3 Playoffs as the clear favourite, with a direct promotion to MPL Malaysia Season 16 on the line. The Playoffs will take place offline at Quill City Mall, Kuala Lumpur, from 26 to 29 June, offering a total prize pool of US$20,000 (approximately RM85,769).
The top 10 teams from the Regular Season, alongside six Challenger Conference teams, will compete for advancement to Malaysia’s premier esports league. MAL MY, launched in January 2024 by MOONTON Games and IO Esports, aims to serve as a structured talent development platform for young local players.
CG Esports, which suffered only one match loss during the Regular Season, is led by two of Malaysia’s most recognised MLBB names—Muhammad Danial “Cikugais” Mohamad Fuad and Muhammad Syafizan Najmi “Garyy” Kamarulzaman. Cikugais, a four-time M Series veteran, and Garyy, noted as one of MPL Malaysia’s costliest transfers at RM100,000, are central to the team’s campaign for MPL qualification.
GamesMY Kelantan, who narrowly missed MPL promotion last season, returns as a strong contender in second place and is expected to challenge CG Esports’ dominance.
This season also marks the competitive debut of MLBB’s new hero, Wu Zetian, outside of China. The inclusion of Wu Zetian introduces a fresh dynamic to the tournament’s meta. “Her long-range magic poke, oppressive lane control, and powerful ultimate make her a true game-changer in the MLBB playoffs meta,” said Cikugais.
For the first time, MAL MY introduces a revamped promotion system. The team that wins the Challenger Upper Bracket Final will receive automatic promotion to MPL Malaysia, while the runner-up will have one last chance through a playoff against existing MPL team JP Niners.
MAL MY is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Esports Integrated (ESI), Rakan Muda, and the Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF).
