#Carmegeddon Day 1: Grab Is In Complete Disarray; High Fares, Suspended Accounts & A Lack Of Drivers Drive Users Up The Wall

Multiple Users Are Reporting Difficulty Getting A Ride, High Fares & Having Their Grab Accounts Suspended

It’s day one of #carmageddon and as you would expect, things aren’t exactly going very smoothly for Grab or its users right now. In case you’ve been living under a rock the past couple of months, you can find a recap of what’s been going on with Grab here.

You’d think all of Grab’s problems would start today but things actually started going downhill yesterday when multiple users reported that the app was down. Not only were riders experiencing issues with the app, but so were drivers so in a sense, it was a very holistic approach. A quick look on Twitter and you’ll find a sea of Grab related complaints.

Driver related problems:

If I were a Grab driver right now. Imagine having spent your precious time completing all the PSV requirements in order to be eligible to drive one the new e-hailing regulations kick in, and on the day these regulations kick in, a problem with the app leaves you driving around for 3 hours unable to find a single job. And that’s not the only problem drivers are experiencing. Take a look at the screengrab ( ha ha) below:

Grab seems to be leaving their drivers out in the cold here. The problems with the app for the drivers are only the beginning.

Rider related problems:

It would seem that Grab riders are at their wits end too. To be honest, there are so many problems being reported that I don’t even know where to begin. Should I start with the fact that Grab in their infinite wisdom decided to make today (the same day e-hailing regulations come into play) the deadline for users to submit their selfies for facial recognition?

To be fair to Grab, they did announce that users will have to submit selfies for facial recognition a while back, but to start implementing it for all users on the same day that their fleet is decimated by 59% makes no sense. Not only do people who open the app to book a ride have to wait to get their face verified, they also now have a longer wait time for their ride.

Or perhaps I should begin with the other issues plaguing riders such as the increase in fares..

(To be fair, you know you should take social media with a pinch of salt when someone compares Grab fares to actual rape)

Or maybe the fact that for some strange reason, user accounts are being suspended.

This whole situation is playing out to be the token example of Murphy’s law. You know, the one that states that everything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Whatever it is, it’s only day 1 and we fully expect Grab to come through for both its drivers and riders in the months to come.
