Canon Marketing Malaysia is holding a nationwide programme in search of young, budding photographers to participate in its ‘Canon EOS Youth Ambassador Programme’.
First-of-a-kind in Malaysia, the programme is part of Canon’s commitment to cultivate a new generation of young photographers and encourage photography amongst Malaysian youths – be it as a lifestyle, a hobby or a potential career.
Andrew Koh, President & CEO, Canon Marketing Malaysia, explained that Canon inspires to be the industry leader that continuously cultivates photography interest in in the market.
“The photography industry has undergone a shift where, in this age of smartphones, many consumers have the convenience of taking photos. As they are more exposed to better image qualities shared on social media, consumers have also started looking for better alternatives and image qualities which can be captured by cameras. There are also savvy photo hobbyists who are looking to improve their photography skills. We aim to reach out to this group to help them hone their interest and skills,” said Koh.
With the programme, Canon aims to arm those interested in photography with the necessary skills to pursue their passion; while providing a platform and community for like-minded young photographers to come together and further enhance their skills in photography. The imaging solutions company believes in the importance and impact that photography has on culture and in being able to preserve the moments that matters.

Mr. Jeffrey Kung, Assistant Director, Consumer Imaging Information Division (CII) for Canon Marketing Malaysia, said that the 11th annual Canon Photo Marathon received an attendance of over 1,000 participants, with different levels of experience in photography. This shows there is great appreciation for photography in Malaysia.
“This is why we are organising our very first-of-its-kind Canon EOS Youth Ambassador Programme. The programme aims to give the means to up and coming young photographers, inspiring and encouraging these communities of young talents to develop the necessary skills so that they can reach their infinite potential,” said Kung.
“It is a rare opportunity as the programme will not only provide visibility for these young talents into the extraordinary world of photography, but also a mentor who will accompany them throughout this programme.”
From 10 October 2017 to 11 November 2017, the Canon EOS Youth Ambassador Programme is opened to all Malaysians aged between 15 to 30 years old; regardless of skill levels. Those shortlisted will get an opportunity to participate in Canon professional photography workshops, train and apprentice under Canon Malaysia’s EOS Ambassadors, and receive other perks such as participating in Canon’s photography events and campaigns.
Interested participants are required to record and upload 2 to 6-minute video of themselves, and submit a video URL link along with at least three of their best photography work via email by 11 November 2017.
