Call of Duty (CoD) Mobile was a hit when it came out earlier this year in October 2019. Why? Because it was Call Of Duty on your phone. As much as you might want to not take it seriously, mobile is one of the biggest gaming markets out there. But to the more pressing topic on hand, CoD Mobile’s new Zombie mode. The new game type will be releasing on 22nd November, as they announced in a tweet from the official Call of Duty Mobile page.
If you aren’t really clear on what it is, it’s basically a PvE game mode. Instead of fighting other players, you and four other players work together to survive wave after wave of attacking zombies. More zombie kills, more points you get, and that’ll help you progress, buy perks, get new guns, or repair barriers so zombies can’t get in. It’s actually fun when you get in with a couple of your friends, and see how long you can last.
But with that out of the way, let’s get straight into the next topic, why mobile gaming is so huge.
The short answer is, that it’s one of the most accessible platforms there is. Not everyone owns a gaming console, or a PC with enough power to game. But almost virtually everybody has a smartphone, and most are capable enough to run the latest and greatest. What does that translate to? More users, and gamers.
The long answer is that it’s just insanely profitable, if done right. That’s why even developers like Blizzard are trying to turn to the platform, with their Diablo Immortal game (which is never coming out btw). Check out this report from Activision and Blizzards Q3 2019 earnings.
King mad $500 million, in comparison to big AAA titles from both Activision AND Blizzard. What does that really say about the state of mobile gaming? That it is undoubtedly, and unequivocally, the King.
See what I did there?
