Call Of Duty Is Launching A Free-To-Play Battle Royale Game, Call of Duty: Warzone, Available 10th March

What seemingly came out of nowhere, but thoroughly expected, is Call of Duty’s new battle royale; Call of Duty: Warzone. The game is slated to release today, 10th March, and if you already own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Warzone will be available as a 18-22GB add-on to the game as of 8 AM PT (11 PM in Malaysia).

However, if you didn’t own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the game will be available as of 12PM PT (3 AM on 11th March) and will be a 80-100GB download. Call of Duty announced the game on their Twitter account with a bunch of other tweets regarding the game.

So what makes the game an exicting prospect in the battle royale scene?

Warzone takes place in Verdansk, a city which has multiple named zones and over 300 points of interest. Each of these zones comprise of distinct landmarks, making for a varied gameplay amongst players.

There’s going to be two new modes in the game, Plunder and Battle Royale, which will bring 150 players dropping into one world together. The Plunder mode has Warzone players collecting cash by looting items displayed on the map, stealing other players money, and completing Contracts in game with the goal of collecting the most cash.

Battle Royale is well, a standard battle royale game mode with the shrinking circle full of posinous gas or something like that. You know, standard tropes in any battle royales released thus far. But the one factor that differentiates Warzone from the rest, has to be their Gulag revival mechanic.

Only in the Battle Royale mode, after your initial death, you’ll be taken as a “Prisoner of Warzone” and thrown into the ‘Gulag’. There, you’ll wait for your turn as you see the rest of the prisoners, fight to their deaths. When it’s your turn, you’ll enter the Gulag and have a 1v1 battle with a single opponent to stand a chance to get back in the game. If you win, you’ll be deployed right back into the action in Verdansk. Your squad however, will have the chance to redploy you if they complete enough contracts and earn enough in-match cash.

Warzone will also allow cross platform play AND progression, meaning you don’t have to worry about your account if you’re shifting from PC to PS4, or so on. You’ll also be able to play with your friends on PS4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
