BlackBerry has announced that the company will cease building hardware, focusing on its more profitable software division. In place of proprietary phones, BlackBerry plans to rebrand existing ones in the market, just like they did with the DTEK50.
Speaking to investors, CEO John Chen said, “the company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners. This allows us to reduce capital requirements and enhance return on invested capital.”
