Intent on expanding the popular social platform by Blackberry, BBM which has over 140 million users will now be available on android wearable technologies. The announcement made at CES  comes at a time where the Canadian device company continue to carve a niche with their excellently secure operating system in the ever expanding universe of  mobile and data telephony. Through Android smartwatches, the BBM community will be able to access their BBM messages directly on their smartwatch without the need to reach for their smartphone. “BlackBerry is committed to listening to our customers and integrating new features and partners to improve the BBM Chat experience,” said Herman Li, Senior Vice President, BBM Engineering and Product Management, BlackBerry. “The integration of BBM to support wearable technology is just one way we’re expanding the capabilities of our portfolio and delivering exciting options for customers to easily access BlackBerry’s crossplatform technologies.” Features include reading messages on its entirety, respond to messages hands-free with Google Now, accept BBM invites from the smartwatch without the need to access the smartphone and once youve installed BBM on your smartphone the BBM Android Wear will automatically be available in your watch. BBM support for Google Android Wear Platform will be available in early 2015.

According to research firm Canalys the annual shipment for smartwatches are estimated to grow to more than 28 million units by 2015 and more than 60 million by 2017, wearable technology and Internet of Things is touted to be the next leap for connected devices from chipmakers to consumer electronics manufacturers all clambering to develop products that will connect. The market for Smartphones has the potential to reach out to 5 billion however Internet of Things could exceed 50 billion!
