With the government’s e-Tunai initiative, where users could claim RM30 from Boost, Touch ‘n Go e-wallet or Grab Pay, users weren’t the only one happy to hear about this. It seems now that scammers have found and seized the opportunity to try and take advantage of new users who’re getting these new deals. One of the scam groups have claimed that they’re from Boost themselves, and are sending scam SMS messages to users.

This comes from Leesharing, who says that netizens have been getting texts from Boost, claiming that they have won the RM8888 cash prize from Boost. This is because Boost are currently running a promo in conjunction with with the e-Tunai initiative for users so they can win RM8,888.

The scammers will ask users to clink on a link the text message to get the prize. But here’s the thing, Boost doesn’t notify winning users via text message. So if you get any such message as the ones showcased in the article here, or any others that are claiming to be Boost, best ignore it.

Once you click on the link, you’ll be automatically connected to an unknown WhatsApp number. The scammers will then try to prove they’re real by showing their Boost membership credentials, and will ask users to ‘upgrade’ their accounts to get the RM8,888 prize. They will then use that opportunity to ask the user to reload an amount to their e-wallet to finish the account upgrade. But once you do this, they’re going to steal that money immediately.

Scammers are always going to be out there, but hopefully, you’ll stay ahead of the curve and not fall to any scams.
