Many Apple users who are using iPhone 6 model onward, have the privilege of replacing their phone battery for just RM121 (US$29) and can instantly feel their devices refreshed, like new. Now this is possible because Apple initiated the Battery Replacement program last year which offers users a steep discount with savings of US$50 with a US$29 battery.

With the program coming to an end come December 31, those who have been using their iPhone for more than a year its best suggested that you head over to the nearest authorised Apple store and get the battery replaced. While this is a noble gesture from Cupertino, before you make that trip, there are a few things you have to know about the program on what the technicians will consider for the replacement.

We spoke to one of them from Machines and here’s what he said, most importantly the unit must be in good condition- there should be no visible tampering with the device, no cracked screen, dents around the device to the extend the a gap appears between the screen and the metal frame or if the phone is warped beyond shape. According to him, in order to get to the battery, the technician will first have to remove the screen using a special equipment, while removing the screen is not so difficult, placing it back is where the tricky part comes. If the phone’s shape is not intact, fitting the screen will be near impossible and will require it to be replaced as well. And that will cost nearly as much as the whole device in itself.

So do a visual inspection of your iPhone, look for gaps and make sure the device is reasonably okay condition before heading to a service centre. The last you want is waiting for 1 hour just be sent back empty handed!
