Atari. That’s a nostalgic name. That name could be making a comeback in a major way – with a brand new hardware.

According to an interview with GamesBeat, Atari CEO Fred Chesnais revealed that the video game company is working on a new game console.

A video teaser has been making its rounds on the internet since last week about a new product called the Ataribox. The video hinted at a hardware, possibly with a wood-grain finish. The title of the video noted “a brand new Atari product. Years in the making.”

“We’re back in the hardware business,” Chesnais confirmed during the interview with GamesBeat at E3. The CEO didn’t disclose any further details about the product, but mentioned that it’s based on PC technology. The team at Atari is still working on the design and will reveal it at a later date.

After Atari filed for bankruptcy protection in 2013, Chesnais bought it and pledged to make it great again. The company is now profitable, and it is engaged in making mobile games.

With retro games making a comeback, Nintendo has been pushing out revivals of older games on the NES classic edition console, as well as virtual console on the 3DS with titles like Pokemon Gold and Silver, Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda. Perhaps Atari is catching on and reviving the nostalgic factor.
