ROG from Asus pushes the gaming laptop design and function to the next level with the Chimera, a gaming laptop that has an ultra-responsive 144Hz wide-view display and a 7ms gray-to-gray response time.

Powered by Intel Core i7 7820 processor with Nvidia GTX 1080 GPU, the Chimera is set at GO! from start, the 17.3” IPS display places the notebook as one of the biggest yet. IPS displays typically have slow response times that can , produce visible ghosting behind fast-moving objects their individual pixels usually take around 25 milliseconds to switch between shades of gray, but Asus worked closely with the panel partner to cut that time to just 7 ms.

For overclocking aficionados, the CPU is unlocked for easy tweaking and factory overclocked to 4.3GHz right out of the box. The DDR4-2800 memory also runs faster than stock, and allows to push the system’s clock speeds even higher with the ROG Gaming Center software.

Instead of slimming down, the Chimera is 51mm thick and there is a reason for that, all that non-stop gaming will lead to overheating, but not on this notebook. Here’s why, there’s four radiators sitting behind the exhaust vents, the thin fins require room to dissipate the air and the extra space quickens the cooling process. A network of heatpipes channels thermal energy away from the CPU and GPU, and the it even has an extra pipe for the circuitry powering those chips. Dedicated cooling keeps the power components under 80°C.

With the Chimera made public at IFA, Asus is set to regain its place in the mobile gaming industry, expect to see the edition coming to SEA in quarter 4.
