Starting tomorrow, people wishing to make their journey from their hometown back to the city will need to apply for a special MCO travel permit issued by the police.
Before the MCO started it was observed that many Malaysians in fear of not being able to visit their family for the weekends decides to make an exodus back but this eventually led to a 6 week lockdown with many now itching to come back to the city. In consideration of this the government has scheduled three days in May for these people to travel back to the city. In order to streamline the process, PDRM has set up a dedicated online portal for travelers to apply for a permit, before taking on the highways.
The Gerak Malaysia application will be made available tomorrow and all eligible persons who intend to make that inter-state travel can apply. However the government has only given three days period for the travel which starts from May 1 to May 3. All those who applied on April 26 will also have to re-confirm and update their destination and status again on April 29.
Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Huzir Mohamed also asked all individuals to check the status of their application one more time again on May 1 to ensure their is no changes are information are accurate. For those who do not have the Gerak Malaysia form they have option to submit a written application for a permit at the nearest police station. Datuk Huzir mentions that priority will be given to those with the Gerak Malaysia application.
Other important things to take note is, do plan the journey there might be no stops allowed, those taking the North-South Expressway are reminded that no eating facility is provided at the Rest and Service (R & R) areas. Surau’s will be closed and any congregational prayer activity at the R & R is not allowed including in any building, open area, car park area and others.
Pit stops to use public toilets at the R & R are allowed which will be operational while the car park area is only allowed for the purpose of resting, the police has also warned road users were not allowed to exit their vehicles during the resting period at the R & R, except to at he public toilets.
