Apple’s Wireless Charging Mat, AirPower, May Make An Appearance By End Of The Year

New information and concept renders of Apple’s AirPower charging mat have come up with some upgraded internals to compensate for heating issues in the past. Wireless charging tech now though, has expanded to a point where a concept like the AirPower is possible.

The AirPower’s main feature is that it’s a wireless charging mat, which comes with multiple Qi compatible coils. Meaning, customers wouldn’t need to fidget around with their devices to make sure that it was charging. Having a mat like this would also make it easier to charge multiple devices at the same time.

As highlighted by Notebookcheck, the problem before was they couldn’t find a way to effectively differentiate between device placement, as well as heating issues.

But now, according to tech analyst Jon Prosser, Apple have figured out their problems by using the A11 Bionic chipset and adding in fewer coils to overlap. This new chipset will combined with upgraded system will apparently make it easier for processing power management for multiple devices and advanced heat dissipation. Which essentially means, all your stuff gets charge, and it doesn’t burn out from overheating.

But the concept is nice, especially if you’re equipped with the whole armada of wireless charging compatible Apple devices such as; iPhones, Apple Watches, AirPod cases, and so on. Though the price Prosser suggested, $250 (~RM1080) is a tough ask. We do have to add that this is a rumour, so specifics of the leak could come out differently if or when it launches.

If this thing does come out, it’ll be around the end of 2020 or Q4 2021. For that price though, I’m sure people will live with charging their devices with a cable.
