Earth Day is just around the corner and to celebrate, Apple is announcing new green pursuits; this includes the introduction of the Apple Recycling Robot. These initiatives, among other things, see changes to its Apple GiveBack programme and the debut of recycling robot, Daisy.
For every device that goes through the trade-in via the Apple GiveBack programme, Cupertino will donate to the Conservation International. The group Apple picked is a non-profit group that protects nature through science, policy-making, and partnerships. This initiative runs now until 30 April 2018 and joiners can snag iTunes credit as contribution rewards.
Next is Daisy, the Apple Recycling Robot. It puts its focus purely on innovation and conservation. Daisy improves on its predecessor, Liam. Indeed, it is capable of breaking down parts from nine versions of Apple iPhones for recycling. Impressively, it also picks apart these devices at an efficient speed of 200 devices per hour.
Beyond these efforts, Apple is also releasing its annual Environment Report; results include reviewing progresses in:
- Reducing carbon footprint
- Conserving precious resources
- Pioneering the use of safer materials in its products and processes
Apple Watch users can also try out Apple’s Earth Day Challenge. The challenge asks them to head out and enjoy the planet with a 30-minute workout. Users who do so will receive a special achievement badge and unique iMessage stickers.
Lastly, Apple stores worldwide are featuring green leaf logos or window decals to celebrate Earth Day on 22 April 2018.
These initiatives follow Apple’s announcement of 100% clean energy at its global facilities. Apple’s nine new manufacturing partners will also follow this green approach.
