Used by millions to identify and discover music or song playing around them, Shazam one of the pioneer app to house themselves in App Store, have become the latest music related service to be acquired by Apple.
Tim Cook is building an arsenal of services for his company to stave off stiff competition from Google and Spotify who are also building a strong ecosystem in music and video. Shazam basically lets users identify songs, advertisement, movies, television shows based on a short sample played and using the microphone on the device. The app has already passed the billion download range and is used 20 million times each day to identify songs.
No information on the amount paid was released, but Apple will have big plans to integrate the service into its iPhones and iTunes. The strategic acquisition could be in response to the number of its users using other music apps instead of iTunes, which the company track and monitor.
