Among the plethora of announcements during Google I/O, was the expected development on the Chrome OS. With Microsoft proving success on the Universal Platform and Windows 10 users having full access to Windows Store, Chrome will soon run the full Playstore apps on the operating software.

Giving Redmond sleepless nights, Google is getting its own operating software laptops or Chromebooks for users, it says they are for those who want fast, simple and secure computing experience. These laptops run very quickly upon starting, and work instantaneously within seconds, virus protection and automatic updates are also built-in, though they have not picked up in popularity in Malaysia, YTL has deployed thousands of units to schools under the 1Bestari project.

Open source and no licensing fees, gives users food for thought, schools in the US are now buying more Chromebooks than all other devices combined — and in Q1 of this year, Chromebooks topped Macs in overall shipments to become the #2 most popular PC operating system in the US.

This encouragement has got many users requesting for more application made available for the OS, which Google gladly obliges, Google Play is now coming to Chromebooks. All the productivity tools, Office, game will now be available for the user. The same apps that run on phones and tablets can now run on Chromebooks which also make things much convenient for developers.

Google Play will start rolling out in the developer channel with M53 on the ASUS Chromebook Flip, the Acer Chromebook R 11 and the latest Chromebook Pixel. Over time, this will roll out to other Chromebooks in the market. There is also word that Google is working with partners to launch some new devices specially designed for Play.
