It looks like AMD is about to give Intel a run for its money with the unveiling of its latest desktop processor, the AMD Ryzen. Having recently given the title of coveted high-end PC processors to Intel for the past couple of years, AMD has definitely made itself known once more with the Ryzen, claiming it to outperform against Intel’s Kaby Lake processors. The Ryzen boasts a 52% boost in instructions per cycle (IPC), putting it on the same pedestal as Kaby Lake.

The Ryzen will come in multiple variants but the higher-end Ryzen 7 will be the first to ship out on 2nd March 2017 while all Ryzen processors are available for pre-order now. While all Ryzen 7 processors come with eight cores and 16 threads, the 1700 will be retailing at RM1,599 (US$ 329) and has a base clock speed of 3.0GHz and is capable of hitting 3.7GHz turbo. The mid-range 1700X will be going at RM1,899 (US$399) and has a base clock speed of 3.4GHz and can hit up to 3.8GHz turbo. The creme de la creme of the Ryzen 7 would be the 1800X, capable of a base clock speed of 3.6GHz and can notch up to 4.0GHz turbo. Priced at RM2,599 (US$ 499), the Ryzen 7 1800X is US$500 cheaper compared to Intel’s i7-6900K processor.
