Samsung wants to kick the year off with a blast (not literally like it did mid last year) welcoming 2017 with new additions to the mobile phone family. Not waiting for even the first week to pass, invitations has already been sent out to local media and come this week, the new enhanced A series will see its entry into the market. The need to catch up could not be, more evident!

So, what do we need to know of this impending launch, firstly the announcement will include all of the series, the Galaxy A7, A5 and A3 (2017), including a 5.7-inch, 5.2-inch and 4.7-inch respectively. These were the versions developed in 2015 to tackle the burgeoning demand for powefull mid-range smartphones by customers, currently being overrun by Chinese brands.

Overview

The smartphones will continue to feature metal frames as their outlook and 3D glass for the back giving a premium feel usually reserved for flagships, and will come in four colour variations, Black Sky, Gold Sand, Blue Mist and Peach Cloud. We are interested to see the colour scheme, as opposed for the bland iterations last year. (Coral Blue on Galaxy Edge 7 and S7 were simply astounding)

Based on teaser released we do know they will be IP68 certified, which means water and dust resistance and improved enhancement from the 2016 editions, invites came with water splash effects. As for the camera, while the older version came equipped with 13 megapixel shooters, Samsung has bumped up the megapixel up for the 2017 models with 16 megapixel (A7 and A5). The A7 in fact, has 16mp for both rear and front camera with f/1.9 f-stop, meaning better low light shots. Users can now touch anywhere on the screen to snap a picture for a selfie, making pictures brighter, the display now can be turned into a flash, a cool concept.

Users who were grieved with the storage can look forward for larger memory and space with battery size also seeing juice added. The series will be equipped with reversible USB Type-C port for easy connectivity and hassle-free charging, the always-on-display makes an appearance on the models as well. Other features include, NFC, Samsung Pay enabled with Magnetic Secure Transmission and biometric authentification, notably fingerprint sensor.

The Galaxy A will be available in Malaysia in January, launch scheduled for 5th this week. Price TBA
