The Covid-19 pandemic has pretty much wiped the floor with the human race, with millions of livelihoods and economies around the world still recovering from it’s effects. That being said, we’re slowly getting back on our feet and as economies restart and borders reopen, so does international travel.
Of course, there are strict SOPs in place for everyone to follow in order to ensure the safety of well, everyone. One of the most basic SOPs is without a doubt the need to wear a mask when you’re out in public. Fair enough right?
Well, not for Garuda Indonesia. The airline says their flight attendants will stop wearing face masks after they received numerous complaints from unhappy passengers. Yup. What could they possibly be unhappy about you wonder?
Well, he airline’s CEO Irfan Setiaputra said that passengers took issue with the fact that they could not see the flight attendants’ expressions while they were being served. Yup. There’s a global pandemic out there and thats their biggest concern? And yet, there are still people who wonder why some perceive the human race as cancer.
“Many of Garuda’s adult passengers have been complaining about our stewardesses wearing masks.
“(Because of the mask), the passengers cannot tell if they are smiling or frowning,”
Garuda Indonesia CEO Irfan Setiaputra
To be fair to Garuda Indonesia though, they’re not going to get rid of masks and leave their staff unprotected. The airline will be replace face masks with face shields, which some research has suggested may even provide better protection against Covid-19.
In addition to that, health checks are done on each crew member prior to every flight and all passengers too have to undergo a polymerase chain reaction test to check for Covid-19, so it’s not all doom and gloom, especially now that passengers can see if flight attendants are smiling or frowning!!!
