Come Chinese New Year, streets become deserted and neighbours disappear, not kidnapped but packed away for the holidays. Despite the economic slumber and depreciated ringgit, Malaysians will continue to travel whenever they get a long break. But its not only here, Asia overall sees a mass travel period occur during the Lunar New Year, so where do these people travel to, and what is their choice of destination for this year.

Airbnb tracked the community on its site and based on their selected booking Japan and Korea have taken the top two spots for the most popular destinations globally this year, with families opting for Osaka, Tokyo, Seoul, Kyoto and Busan more than any other cities. Most interestingly Malaysia is ranked as the fourth  most visited countries by the community with Kuala Lumpur making it into the Top 10 most-visited cities.

City of Angels Los Angeles is the only city outside of Asia to nab a place in the Top 10.
