A Feature Social Media Apps Are Missing; A Way To Reply Efficiently

What’s more irritating but getting a message you really want to reply to, but having it drowned in a sea of endless other messages. It happens all too often, and I for one, am sick of it. It’s one of the features that just makes sense to have, and many have already adopted the feature. If you weren’t sure what I was talking about, it’s this:

Yep. That’s all I really mean. That God damn swipe-to-reply function that most messenger apps have these days. That’s not the problem here, it’s the fact that this ‘feature’ hasn’t been standardised across all apps and social media platforms as of yet. Facebook Messenger literally just got this feature a while back, and the only reason I know this is because I tried swiping on a message and I could reply that way. Goes to show that there is a need for it when even Facebook implements the feature inbuilt into their app. Because I know damn well it wasn’t an option before, as I’ve tried swiping, and failed. The feature is new.

But with Messenger down, there’s still a few apps that still haven’t adapted. And I’m calling them out right now. Mostly because it just annoys me when I go to swipe-to-reply to a specific message, and I can’t.

The two apps that I’ve noticed haven’t picked up on the trend, are Twitter and Instagram. Some of my most used apps, are missing this integral, life changing feature. Dude, it doesn’t even count as a feature honestly. It’s just something that should be built in. While there are undoubtedly other platforms which don’t have this feature, I’m focusing on these two because they’re two of the biggest platforms to not have these features.

Do you realize how annoying it is when you’re in a Twitter groupchat, and people keeping sending messages or other tweets and you’re desperately trying to reply to a previous tweet. But then you can’t because the conversation has proceeded further, and you’re bringing up something old. Or how about Instagram, when someone sends you multiple memes in a row, and asks “was it funny?” and in your mind the 1st one was, but the rest sucked, but you can’t.

In these scenarios, you would have to physically type out which message you’re referring to, and face it, you’re not doing that. It in turn, could just make you want to avoid the platform all together. That’s why it sucks. At this point, we’re in 2019, things should be easier and not unnecessarily inefficient when other platforms are already doing it.

Up your game Twitter and Instagram. 2020 is right here, step into the new decade and refine yo’ sh*t.
