
Government communication agency has reminded the public yet again to not purchase or sell unapproved Digital Terrestrial TV set boxes which has found its ways into homes. These set-to boxes which do no have the MCMC identity sticker on them are deemed illegal and those caught in possession can be charged.
There is has been a proliferation of such devices in the market, with some offering up to thousands of streaming channels with just RM300 one off fees. Using internet protocol, these DTTV boxes scramble various streams and even able to broadcast live games over the box. However, there are set backs with the purchase as there is no guarantee and buyers will have to memorise program channels as there are no listings. Reports has also surfaced on Astro and MyTY having issues with copies of its receivers being sold in the market, buyers are assured of receiving signals without the monthly subscription fees.
MCMC also warns these users not to download or upload content from these sources and share them via any digital platform be it social media. Calling in unethical, local producers have been urging authorities to clamp down on such activities which has been causing movie makers losses due to such acts of piracy.
