Malaysia’s Magnus Games Signs Global Publishing Deal with 505 Games

After powering through various challenges, Malaysian-based Magnus Games Studio will enter into a worldwide publishing agreement with 505 Games S.p.A. This agreement will see Re:Legends, now the most successful Southeast Asia game to receive funding on Kickstarter, gain global recognition; specifically on Steam.

The publisher, a subsidiary of Italian game publisher and distributor – Digital Bros S.pA., will push Re:Legends on a global scale. This includes the North America and Europe regions. Of course, the coverage will include Asia as well.

What Magnus Games Studio achieves here is not just another feather in its cap; it’s a milestone move for LEVEL UP Inc, a proper incubator space for digital games development. This space is a concept that the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) put together to support the regional games industry.

“Seeing how far our talents have come, especially with folks like Magnus Games Studio, it showcases our ‘Malaysia Boleh’ spirit! I’m really proud of their achievements. It’s another step in the right direction for the digital games sector here,” says Dato’ Ng Wan Peng, COO, MDEC.

Re:Legends started gaining attention in the games industry when it scored a 99% up-vote rating on the Square Enix Collective. It’s on this curated platform, made for creators to share ideas, that the brainchild from brothers DC and Welson Gan shot to the stars.

This first breakthrough inspired them to take it to the next level and bid for huge backing on Kickstarter. After breaking its goal of US$70,000 under 24 hours, it did not just end there. Once the Kickstarter campaign wrapped up, Re:Legends garnered 900% funding from backers.

“It’s amazing to see all the support Re:Legend is getting,” says DC, Co-Founder for Magnus. As he recounts the positive reception, he adds: “Personally, it is an absolute honour for a budding studio like Magnus to do what we are doing now; moreso, that we are now partnering a major publisher such as Digital Bros. We are thrilled with the market opportunities for Re:Legend that this worldwide publishing agreement brings. We worked hard and poured our passion into making this game enjoyable for our supporters and fans. With this partnership with 505 Games and Digital Bros, we hope to bring the game to the next level; it is something we will continuously work on as we grow Re: Legend into a global franchise.”

Raffaele Galante, COO, Digital Bros, is keen to help push Re:Legend as he believes it’s a game with multi-layer appeal. “It will certainly attract both casual and serious players since it feels like a proper RPG and a management game. Indeed, it is a promising project with passion, novelty, and creativity. Our cooperation with Magnus Games Studio on Re: Legend also reinforces our footprint and efforts in Asia,” shares Galante.

With this signing, the expectations are now even higher for the Gan brothers to deliver. With several push backs on the launch date, it’s easy to put a negative spin for Re:Legend. However, working with MDEC and now with 505 Games on-board, things should be looking up for the development team. Here’s to hoping they can meet the new and final deadline to launch Re:Legend.
