Being a huge fan of stand-up comedy, it is great to see iflix finally getting its very own 60-minute comedy special. The special will feature none other than Jonathan Atherton with his own show, Jon Atherton: Disoriental. This special will follow the comic on his misadventures around Asia, where he is based around for two decades.
Being one of Australia’s most successful comics, Jon is fluent in multiple Asian languages, making his jokes that much more relatable to a much wider audience. Through his unadulterated style of comedy, Jon talks about his real-life experiences around the Asian region in countries like Singapore, Thailand, India and Indonesia amongst others.
Filming for Jon Atherton: Disoriental took place in Kuala Lumpur in early February 2018, which was produced by Double Vision Sdn Bhd. Instead of purchasing ticket prices to his show, attendees were encouraged to make donations instead. The donations will go to Asylum Access, a non-profit organisation (NGO) that focuses on making a refugee’s rights a reality in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
iflix Global Director of Original Programming, Mark Francis said:
“I can’t think of another comic who can so ably poke fun at the region’s diversity and literally ‘speak the language’, thus achieving an elusive pan-Asian appeal. His remarkable ability to assimilate with the cultures he’s lived in makes his comedy authentically local while striking a universal chord. We also knew, based on his performance in the iflix Original Oi! Jaga Mulut, that our audiences wanted more of Jon’s hard-hitting brand of humour. So producing a solo special made total sense.”
