Horror fans! Pour up some holy water and get your holy cross on hand because lo and behold The Exorcist is getting a reboot.
According to a Deadline article, Morgan Creek Entertainment is preparing a theatrical reboot for the classic horror franchise to hit in 2021.
Nothing else known of the Exorcist reboot yet, theoretically the project will have to begin pre-production and casting soon if it wants to make it in time for the release next year.
Funnily, the film website, /Film unearthed an old tweet from 2015 where the production company said it would never remake the beloved 1973 movie. Why do tweets always come back to haunt us?

The original Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin and based on the William Peter Blatty novel, stars Linda Blair as Regan MacNeil, a young girl possessed by the demon Pazuzu. Most of the cast members of the original film have passed on so it remains to be seen how exactly the new remake will draw links to its predecessor films or whether it will do so at all for that matter.
The Exorcist film was a legend in its time, raking in 10 Academy Award nominations and winning two of them in an age where horror films did not get much to any recognition from the Oscars.
The film was so successful, it spawned four spinoffs including 1977’s The Exorcist II: The Heretic and 1990s The Exorcist III and two separate prequels.
The movie has also been partially rebooted as a TV series on Fox more recently. The reboot acted as a direct sequel to the original movie and ignores the others in the series.
The show was beloved by fans but ended in a somewhat premature fashion by Fox after its second season in 2017. It was only a matter of time before they realised they could cash in on another theatrical release.
The 2021 movie will likely restart the saga altogether, offering a fresh take on the Blatty novel.
