NetEase’s Upcoming Mobile Game “Code: T” Looks Like A Carbon Copy Of Cyberpunk 2077

NetEase has announced a new cyberpunk-themed game for mobile, and at a first glance it already looks very familiar to something we’ve been seeing all around: Cyberpunk 2077. I mean, come on, it’s just a bit too familiar if you ask me. The first striking resemblance is quite literally the main character in the teaser above, which is an almost one-to-one copy of V from Cyberpunk 2077.

I mean, check out the comparison below:

The coat, the eyes, the literal design, the resemblance is striking. This isn’t the only resemblance from the trailer, check out these side-by-side comparisons with trailer footage from Code: T and Cyberpunk 2077:

The new information about NetEase’s latest offering comes from Daniel Ahmad, analyst at Niko Partners who shared the trailer above. The game will reportedly be based in a chaotic and dangerous near-future city, and features you, the main character as a bounty hunter.

You’ll be able to recruit players, navigate the world and there are some simulation game elements included as well. Ahmad also mentions that the game has a “larger management / simulation focus in terms of running the city”.

Which essentially means gameplay might differ greatly from Cyberpunk, with the exception of the overall game design and graphics.

All this really points to is NetEase trying to cash in on the hype around Cyberpunk 2077. But still, it’s kind of weird to see how this is accepted, when clearly there’s been some borrowing. The ‘cyberpunk’ theme has been prevalent for a while now, so that isn’t surprising. A lot of people are into the stylistic appeal of ‘cyberpunk’ and neon.

What is surprising however, is how effortlessly NetEase swoops in with their very own ‘cyberpunk’ mobile game, right around the time everyone’s eagerly anticipating Cyberpunk 2077.

Just sayin’.
