Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has announced that it has restored the international capacity on the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) cable fault and has managed to fully re-route and optimise traffic via alternate international link routes.

Previously, one of the submarine cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia linking Singapore, China and Hong Kong has been reported to be severely damaged.

The original set date for recovery was estimated to be completed by April 20.

TM further stated that fine tuning of the network is currently taking place and continuous monitoring will continue on their network performance.

“We would like to reiterate that the impact to customers was minimal due to proactive re-routing of traffic to alternative routes and other actions taken whilst restoration works by consortium partners are underway. We are now pleased to update that data connectivity to sites and servers hosted in Hong Kong and the US are now fully optimised for your enjoyment,” says Telekom Malaysia in a press statement.
