During the AMD press event in Taipei, the brand shared more information on the new Ryzen Threadripper processor, which will sit above the Ryzen 7 in the family. The new processor will be going head-to-head with Intel’s Extreme line of processor in the market.

The processor was previously announced during their recent company’s financial analyst day, and now in Computex they are sharing more information on the chip as well as partner boards from OEM manufacturers. Targeted at the world’s fastest ultra-premium desktop systems, and scheduled for release in summer 2017, Ryzen Threadripper will be a beast, thanks to its up to 16 cores, which translates to 32 processing threads. This will make the Threadripper a beast for compute-intensive applications.

AMD showed several Ryzen Threadripper and Radeon “Vega” demonstrations, including a system with the Ryzen Threadripper and dual Radeon “Vega” based-GPUs seamlessly running Bethesda’s new Prey title at 4K resolution. From the screens shown, the new processor handles it without a hitch, and when paired with the new Radeon “Vega” GPU, it will be a force to be reckoned with.

In addition, AMD also announced cutting-edge high-performance motherboard designs from ASRock, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI, built upon the new X399 chipset. The X399 chipset motherboards for the new socket TR4 platform are designed for the highest tier of PC enthusiast society, who demand cutting-edge features such as 16 core/32 thread processors, quad channel memory with support up to 2TB of RAM, superior IO, and who choose the ultimate processor and motherboards as an extension of their personal brand.
