CES 2017: DJI Expands Osmo Product Line and Introduces New Aerial Display System

A brand that many of us are familiar with for its drone products, DJI introduces a new aerial display, two new Osmo product extensions, a new aerial mapping app and a limited-edition Phantom 4 drone at the CES Unveiled in Las Vegas.

“We’re very excited to be here and give CES attendees a glimpse into the future of aerial and imaging technology,” says Paul Pan, DJI’s Lead Engineer.

Display: CrystalSky Monitor

Designed from the group up to work seamlessly with the DJI GO app, DJI’s new CrystalSky monitor makes outdoor aerial imaging an utterly amazing experience. It features an ultra-bright screen – its more than four times as bright as typical mobile devices – that allows drone operators to not lose any display visibility despite the sun’s glare. On screen, the CrystalSky Monitor provides a clear and sharp display, with vibrant colours. It also has an optimised video decoding for a smooth, real-time video output with minimal latency. Its comes in two sizes, namely 7.85-inch and 5.5-inch screens. Pricing and availability is to be announced.

Handheld: Osmo Mobile Silver & Zenmuse M1
With the same high-quality build and ergonomic design found in the Osmo family, DJI introduces a new colour in its Osmo Mobile line, which is perhaps not as exciting for those who already own one. However, the company has made further enhancements d to the Osmo Mobile Silver, including a new Beautify mode uses automatic identification and intelligent processing technologies inside the DJI GO app, allowing users to do minor touch ups and give their videos that perfect, professional sheen. The Osmo Mobile Silver will also work with FiLMiC Pro, a professional filmmaking mobile app that gives creators more flexibility and creative freedom with their handheld device.

With the goal to make products scalable and to provide a way for existing Osmo customers to capture cinematic videos with their smartphones, the Zenmuse M1 gimbal is made available as an add-on accessory. Similar to the Zenmuse X5 and X5R gimbals, the Zenmuse M1 allows owners of the original Osmo stabiliser to mount a smartphone and take full advantage of their existing Osmo handle.

The U.S. retail price of the Osmo Mobile Silver is US$299 (≅ RM1,345) and the Zenmuse M1 gimbal without the Osmo handle is US$169 (≅ RM760).

App: Ground Station Pro

Ground Station Pro (or GS Pro) is an iPad app designed for professional operators to plan and control autonomous flights for DJI aircraft. Through the app’s concise, easy to use interface, complex flight missions can be planned with just a few taps. GS Pro was designed to improve workflow and dramatically increase efficiency in a wide range of industries, especially those in aerial mapping, architecture, precision agriculture and electrical inspections.

Compatible with most DJI aerial platforms and Zenmuse cameras, the DJI GS Pro will serve as a powerful and convenient tool for many industries and give critical missions added accuracy and reliability. The GS Pro iPad app is free and available for download at the App Store.

Aerial: Phantom 4 Chinese New Year Edition

In tandem with the Chinese New Year celebrations at the end of January 2017, DJI collaborates with illustrator and designer Martin Sati to customise the Phantom 4. The drone features the phoenix as a centrepiece as a symbol of good fortune and happiness in Chinese mythology. He also drew inspiration from the four basic elements of nature – air, fire, water and earth – and reflected each of these elements in his design. The Phantom 4 Chinese New Year Edition’s U.S. retail price is US$1,199 (≅ RM5,394) and will be sold exclusively at Apple Stores, DJI Flagship Stores (except Korea), DJI Online Store and Tmall DJI Store. The product will start shipping from 23 January 2017.
