The worst is over for travelling passengers at the KL International Airport, for the past 4 days those taking flights out of KLIA were inundated with all sorts of problems from flight delay, long waits, misinformation, confusion and baggage misplacement, all due to the airports network system malfunction.
Bernama reports that as of Saturday, there were less crowd seen at the airport sign of passengers clearing up and queues at the check-in counters becoming more manageable.
This ease follows Malaysia Airports measures to act on rectifying the situation by replacing the network equipment after it identified network failure as the cause of the disruption. The systems disruption since Wednesday night (Aug 21) affected key functions such as WiFi connection, flight information display system, check-in counters and the baggage handling system. Malaysia Airports group chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin in a statement on Friday said since the replacement of the network equipment, there had been progress in network stability.“Critical systems at the KLIA main terminal are now mostly up and running,” he said.
An MAHB spokesman said that they were still monitoring the stability (of the system) following the replacement of the equipment.
KLIA has been operating since 1998 and has never encountered system failure of this magnitude until now, this will go down as the worst technical glitch to effect thousands of passengers from inception. Regulators should investigate the cause of the breakdown and haul responsible parties or contractors if they are found to have failed to deliver their services diligently.
MAHB should also offer a public apology to all stranded passangers and customers using its airport, its the least it can do!
