Multimedia University (MMU) through Yayasan Universiti Multimedia (YUM) and its strategic partner, Huawei Technologies Malaysia gave away scholarships amounting to RM420,000 in an effort to provide financial aids for outstanding students.
The students, Azmin Alias Mohd. Azha, Pay Eong Yeon, Karthiyayeni Govindasamy, Bon Yi Sin, Ng Ann Li and Eilham Hakimie Jamal Mohd. Lokman described the financial aid as a ray of hope to ease their financial burden. They received the allowance for 5 years and upon graduating, they will be offered an internship opportunity for 3 months and future employment in the multinational company. Each student will receive an average of RM11,000 to RM14,000 per year.
Sharing her happiness moment, Karthiyayeni, 22, said, the financial aid helps to fund her final year project and other academic expenses since her father is unable to work as he is too old and just recovered from a stroke. “My dream is to complete my degree with a first class honours, and I want to pursue my career in telecommunication industry,” she added.
Born in Kuala Lumpur, Azmin Alias, 21, pursuing his Bachelor of Computer Science, is truly grateful for the scholarship and to have Huawei as his first step of career path upon his graduation. “This financial aid means a lot to me in a sense that I have already guaranteed my future,” whose his father owns a small business.
Another recipient, Pay Eong Yeon, 22, a Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics) student from Puchong said, the scholarship has eased her financial burden in studies and at the same time it triggers her to work even harder to be qualified as a high achiever. Sharing the same view, Ng Ann Li, 21, a student of Data Communication and Networking, described the assistance as a great opportunity to strengthen herself. “I feel even more motivated than before in my studies,” she said.
“This is another international recognition to our university whereby Huawei has chosen the right university in its effort to nurture a new generation of knowledge workers since MMU’s graduates have long been sought after by the industry,”
Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq, President of MMU
The Scholarship Presentation Ceremony was graced by Tun Zaki Tun Azmi, the MMU Chancellor and the Chairman of YUM at Dewan Tun Canselor MMU Cyberjaya on 3 May 2019. At the ceremony, Emeritus Prof. Tan Sri Dr. Zakri Abdul Hamid, Pro-Chancellor of MMU presented the scholarship to the students. Witnessing the ceremony were Rosli Man, the Chairman of Telekom Malaysia (TM); Zac Chow Chii En, the Sales Vice President of Huawei Malaysia, and Mohamad Mohamad Zain, Yang Dipertua Badan Kebajikan Islam TM (BAKIT).
It’s honestly great to see multinational companies like Huawei doing their part to give back to the local community. Given the price of tertiary education these days, Huawei, together with it’s partners, have pretty much guaranteed the future of these up and coming youngsters.
