Hollow Knight developer Team Cherry has announced a full sequel to the 2017’s bug-filled metroidvania game, Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Silksong stars Hornet, the princess protector of Hallownest from the previous game, who provides some challenging fights against the main protagonist, the Knight.
According to reports, Hornet was kidnapped and taken to a “whole new kingdom haunted by silk and song.” Her journey through to that kingdom’s peak takes her past 150 new enemy types, and through vivid environments like “coral forests, mossy grottos, gilded cities and misted moors.”
The team also hinted that Hornet will showcased different moves and abilities, likely earned over her adventures in the metroidvania style, as well as the ability to craft traps and “mechanisms.” The game will be featuring music by composer Christopher Larkin, who crafted some haunting, memorable tunes for the first game, and a more challenging “Silk Soul Mode” after players have completed the game.
Silksong was originally conceived as just another piece of downloadable content for Hollow Knight, which went on to receive several post-launch expansions as it outgrew its original scope.
The game will be available on the Nintendo Switch platform.
