MYTV Decoder Promos Extended to End of Year

MYTV is extending the promotion on its TV decoders until 31 December 2017. Priced at an initial price of RM199, the promotion was supposed to end on the 16th September, reverting to the original retail price at RM317.

MYTV CEO Michael Chan said: “We have received overwhelming response since the myFreeview digital TV service was launched by the YAB Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak in June. When the retail price was brought down to RM199 right after the launch, we saw an even more positive take up rate. We have also widened our retail network to over 220 outlets at the moment.”

For a limited period, MYTV is also running a special “Buy 10 Get 1 Free” promotion that is targeted at its registered installers, residents associations and commercial establishments. Concurrently, a total of 4.2 million free decoders are being distributed to eligible households from the lowest income group of BR1M recipients.

MYTV decoders are compatible for use with both old and new TV sets including CRT televisions. Users need only connect the decoder to the TV set and a working UHF antenna. Both indoor and outdoor antenna types can be used, although the outdoor UHF antenna is recommended.

MYTV has been appointed by the Government to migrate the country’s free-to-air broadcasting service from analogue to digital under the National Broadcasting Digitalisation Project. It currently has 29 operating digital transmitters broadcasting the myFreeview channels to over 90% of the population. Upon completion, MYTV would have installed 60 main transmitters plus smaller transmitters known as gap fillers at identified areas, enabling up to 98% of Malaysians to access the myFreeview digital TV service.

Currently available channels include TV1, TV2, TV3, TV Alhijrah, ntv7, 8TV, TV9, TVi and Bernama News Channel (BNC). Viewers can also tune in to Nasional FM, Traxx FM, Minnal FM and Ai FM radio stations. More TV and radio channels will be added.

Chan also urged the public not to buy fake or unapproved decoders available in the market including via online shops and social media platforms, as these decoders will not be able to receive the new channels coming to the myFreeview platform. “These decoders do not even have the requisite approvals and may be a fire hazard in the home,” he added.

MYTV decoders are available for purchase online and from over 220 electrical outlets all over Malaysia.
