AT&T executives have green lighted a merger with Time Warner for about US$84.4 billion. This gives them the rights and have access to some very lucrative content. This includes everything under the Warner Bros, including most of the D.C. roster, CNN and Game of Thrones series producers HBO.
On top of that, many major American sports broadcasts now fall under them. As does CNN!
Of course, until things are finalised we shouldn’t speculate too much on what might be in store, but there’s still a chance it might fall through. This could happen if regulators find the merger would violate anti-competition laws or if either of the boards don’t agree on something down the line.
This comes after another carrier bought Yahoo for a substantial amount, looks like operators are looking for new revenue streams as they move from just a platform offering cellular service to content providers.
