In a commendable effort to help students in India become productive and be contributing members of society, the South Indian state government of Tamil Nadu has partnered with Acer India to provide over 230,000 notebooks to its students.

Students who passed the Class 12 in government and government-aided schools in the state has started receiving the laptop in September. Over 650 schools are involved in over 7 districts.

Up to date, Acer has supplied more than 800,000 notebooks matching the specifications that ELCOT (Electronis Corporation of Tamil Nadu) required in three previous phases of the project. Students in Tamil Nadu will get a 14” display laptop with webcam, Intel processor, 2GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, Wi-Fi enabled and comes with Windows Professional Edition OS, Microsoft Office and 1 year warranty.

This initiative not only aid students to have better access to information and learning tools, but it also will create jobs in India and boost the PC market. More than 1 million students are already benefitting from this project, which is at its fifth phase, since it was first initiated in 2011.

Acer continues to be the preferred choice for educational scheme worldwide, including Chile’s “I Select My PC” program to assist students from vulnerable socio-economic segments to narrow the digital divide, which will hopefully enhance their lives.
