Zoom Communications, Inc has introduced major upgrades to its AI Companion, expanding automation, reasoning, and task execution capabilities across Zoom Meetings, Zoom Phone, Zoom Team Chat, Zoom Docs, Zoom Contact Center, and more.
Chief Product Officer Smita Hashim highlighted the AI Companion’s transformation into a truly agentic AI. “These innovations streamline workflows, strengthen relationships, and allow businesses to focus on what matters most,” she said in a statement.
The upgraded AI Companion can now handle multi-step tasks, automate calendar management, generate intelligent clips, and provide contextual writing assistance. It also integrates with third-party AI agents like ServiceNow and supports custom AI solutions tailored to businesses.
Zoom’s AI-powered customer experience (CX) tools now include an enhanced Zoom Virtual Agent with voice and chat support, real-time AI intent routing, and an Advanced Quality Management feature launching in May to improve customer interactions.
For industry-specific applications, Zoom will introduce a Custom AI Companion add-on in April for $12 per user per month, allowing businesses to tailor AI functionalities, integrate proprietary data, and customise meeting templates.
- Healthcare professionals will benefit from automated clinical documentation via Zoom Workplace for Clinicians.
- Educators will gain access to AI-generated lecture summaries through Zoom Workplace for Education.
- Frontline workers will receive AI-driven shift communication and task management tools.
Zoom will also launch Zoom Tasks, an AI-powered centralised task management system later this month, enabling users to track and complete action items across meetings, chats, and emails.
Other AI-driven upgrades include real-time meeting summaries, AI-powered live notes, voicemail transcription, and an AI voice recorder to capture and summarise in-person conversations.
While Zoom AI Companion remains free for existing users with eligible Zoom plans, advanced customisation and third-party integrations will be available as premium features.
Zoom continues to develop its AI ecosystem with a federated strategy, leveraging Small Language Models (SLMs) and Large Language Models (LLMs) for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
