According to Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Francis Yeoh, Managing Director of YTL Group of Companies, the partnership with Intel is an extension of YTLComms’ 1BestariNet initiative, a programme that is designed to transform the education system with ICT. Beyond Yes 4G provisioning to these educational institutions, the Internet Service Provider is also equipping these schools with Google Chromebooks and rolling out the Cloud based Frog Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) system.

“We’re impressed with Intel’s technology and innovations as they are designed specifically to enable the development of next generation mobile devices. For us, that includes improving the Chromebook and Android ecosystem, which we have adopted for our enhanced education plan. Having first brought the first 4G Chromebook to Malaysia with Google, we now will further proliferate more 4G enabled devices. This will include Intel powered tablets and 2-in-1 devices among others. Towards that end, we now look forward to our partnership with Intel to bring innovative 4G Intel Architecture based devices to Malaysia and thus enable next generation learning capabilities as well as conceptualise new application use,” Francis shares.

The right technology solutions are essential in order to realise this latent potential. As Intel has been in Malaysia for over 40 years, we definitely want to help realise the country’s goal of transforming education. To that end, we are proud to partner with YTLComms to make this happen. With our focus in education and firm commitment to technology innovation in powering up next-gen mobile devices, our partnership with YTLComms will definitely bring the benefits of Mobile Internet to more Malaysians.”

All the devices used in the Intel-YTLComms partnership are designed to be flexible in how it will connect to the Yes 4G network. Dato’ Yeoh Seok Hong, Executive Director, YTLComms, reveals that the Intel powered Chromebooks and upcoming tablets will be able to switch from WiFi to WiMAX and even LTE systems with no almost no visibility in switching.

“The entire process will be seamless, ensuring that there is no disruption in students’ work. As the Frog VLE operates on the Cloud, we have to ensure that the connectivity to the Web is always on!” Hong explains.

Intel will also be providing necessary support that will bring the teaching and learning process to the next level. This includes the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), Intel Higher Education and Intel Teach Programmes.
