Xbox One controller chargers are being recalled as it presents as a burn hazard. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in US and Performance Designed Products (PDP) issued the recall yesterday.
The Energizer brand XBOX ONE 2X Smart Chargers was noted to overheat and damage the video game controller, posing a burn hazard to consumers. Around 121,000 units are being recalled in the U.S., with additional 7,250 sold in Canada and 2,560 in Mexico. California based PDP received 24 reports of the chargers overheating and deforming the charger’s plastic cover, including 6 reports of chargers emitting a burning odor. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported as of now.
The charger was used to charge two Xbox controller simultaneously. Although there are similar chargers, the specific model being recalled is printed with an item number stating 048-052-NA at the bottom of the chargers. Sold across the U.S. since February last year till about last month, the chargers were carried by retailers Best Buy, GameStop and other stores, as well as online retailers including Amazon.com. It retailed for about $40.
PDP initiated the recall voluntarily with CPSC. Users are advised to stop usage of the recalled chargers immediately, and contact PDP for product return and a full refund.
