You might be asking yourself, who the heck is Morbius and what the hell is this latest movie about. Because I’ll be honest with you, I have no idea who or what ‘Morbius’ even is, and the trailer didn’t do much but show off some scenes I’m sure they thought looked ‘cool’, but I didn’t get much of the story. Considering that I (and I assume many others like me) haven’t heard of Morbius, we’d probably want to know about the character than the trailer showed. Check out this excerpt from the Morbius site explaining what the movie is about:

“One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.”

And based on what I saw in the trailer, it seems like this dude Dr. Morbius has a rare disease, goes to a cave, gets bitten by a bat, and now he’s a vampire. Not the most original origin story, but everyone’s gotta start somewhere right? I honestly have no idea what it’s about. Considering it’s being made by Sony, and only in association with Marvel, I’m not as hyped as I would be if Marvel were making this themselves. I don’t even get what it’s about.

But low-key dude, vampires are so played out.

There’s also a subtle little Spiderman easter egg that they managed to squeeze into the trailer, I don’t know it’s significance, but it might be because this Morbius dude is some sort of antihero in the Spiderman universe. Also, the trailer depicts Dr. Morbius as someone with money (I’m assuming, I really have no idea), so that’s kinda like Batman. And I mean, he got bit by a bat or something, so that’s makes it a little easier to make an association with the real Bat-man (get it?).

But hey, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this movie won’t be lame and Sony manage to make a franchise out of the Morbius series. Not likely, but not impossible.
