Waze Shares Traffic Predictions for the School Holidays and Hari Raya Haji; Time To Plan Your Route!

Students in Malaysia are eagerly anticipating the holidays that are just around the corner, with schools nationwide taking a break after Term 2 (starting 9 August for Johor, Kedah, Kelantan Terengganu and 10 August for the other states), and with the Monday following Hari Raya Haji (11 August) also declared a public holiday.

The long weekend over the school holidays means an opportunity for many to take a short and well-deserved break with their family and friends. However, the extended weekend also means that the battle of navigating traffic on the roads within, and outside of cities is right over the horizon.

To help you drive safely, get to places faster and make the road a better place, here are some traffic predictions from Waze on what to expect as you make your way in and out of the city for the School Holidays and Hari Raya Haji:

Prediction 1: There will be More Malaysians on the Road

Based on Waze’s 2018 data and in conjunction with the school holidays and Hari Raya Haji, Waze predicts an increase of up to 39% more active users on the road versus what is normally observed during a normal week. So be prepared for heavy traffic!

Prediction 2: Malaysians Will Fuel Up More

Long holidays equates to more road trips which also means more stops at gas stations for those long journeys out of the city. It is predicted that there will be an increase of navigations to petrol stations using Waze, and that number is expected to increase by as much as 38% on Hari Raya Haji compared to the same day of the week in July.

Prediction 3: Malaysians and their love for food and shopping

Malaysians and their love for food knows no bounds as Waze predicts a whopping increase of 95% for food-related navigations, mostly to fast food joints during last year’s simultaneous school holidays with Hari Raya Haji. At the same time, shopping malls will also see an uptrend in navigations by as much as 25% during the same period.
