25 years of innovation has put ASUS on the map as the one to look at when it comes to unique and quirky concepts that spurs inspiration from within as well as on the outside. Its latest offering, the ASUS Transformer Book V, is set to turn heads as it carries on the tradition of playing the ‘Why not?’ card for the Taiwanese brand.
Even while it pulls directly from the PadFone series, the Transformer Book V does have one big twist. Ever seen a 3-in-1 mobile device that offers five modes but is not a multifunction printer? That is the proposition this device puts forward as it literally offers five modes for uses to choose from. Imagine being able to switch from an Android smartphone to a tablet whilst on the same device or perhaps ‘transform’ the tablet that suddenly appeared into a full Windows-powered slate. When jacked onto a keyboard dock, this would make the tablet/slate a full on desktop notebook. The only key difference here is being able to switch from a Windows notebook to an enhanced Android mobile PC as well.
Within the Android 4.4 KitKat, LTE-equipped ZenFone-like 5in smartphone is an Intel Atom Quad-Core CPU, which many quarters have surmised to be the new Intel Moorefield chip, 2GB DDR3 RAM and 64GB storage. When placed into the 12.5in IPS screen, the tablet/notebook half of the Transformer Book V reinforces the capabilities of the Atom with another Intel Core CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB storage. Only in notebook mode will the device’s 1TB hard-drive come into play.
It is truly a proud moment for Jonney Shih, CEO, Chairman, and President of ASUS, as he shows off the Transformer Book V to a bursting press conference as a cap-off to an already power-packed event filled with forthcoming products that are equally as impressive in terms of design, specs, and innovations.
“The tablet can be used independently and when combined with a keyboard dock it turns into an Android notebook. Or, by pressing this hotkey, the Transformer Book V will turn into a powerful Windows 8.1 portable PC and become the ultimate productivity platform. It is all about giving our users a non-compromised experience,” Shih shares as he shows how easy it is to switch modes on the multi-operating system device.
Other devices that made an appearance in this pre-Computex showcase include the ultra-slim ZenBook NX500, Transformer Book T300 Chi, ProArt PA3280 4K Monitor, RT-AC3200 Six-Channel Router, FonePad 8, FonePad 2014 (7in), MemoPad 8, and MemoPad 7. While all had garnered major praise, a few raised some major eyebrows and had standing ovations when Shih announced them.
With all these products set to appear in mid-2014 onwards, Shih is very elated about the innovation his company is geared up to introduce. “We love pushing the boundaries as we love, dream, and dare to be at the forefront of technology. This is all part of our drive to search for the incredible!” he adds.
