U Mobile Terminates Network Agreement With Maxis

U Mobile has notified Maxis that they will be ending their Radio Access Network (RAN) Share agreement – also known as domestic roaming – by end of 2018. This is so that the company can focus on developing their own network in and around Malaysia using their own hardware and radio towers.

As U Mobile grows its subscriber base, they have decided to focus on expanding their network, thanks to the additional spectrum of 2x15MHz of 1800MHz bands as well as the 2x5MHz of 900MHz bands that was awarded by the government last year. As the company slowly rolls out additional service bandwidth, customers can look forward to enjoying enhanced network experience thanks to the progressive upgrade being made by U Mobile utilizing these new bands.

The company expects minimal impact to their customers’ network experience or service quality during the upgrade exercise, and it expects to replace the RAN sites within the stipulated timeline. Customers can look forward to an upgraded network experience and coverage at the end of the exercise. This will make U Mobile a full telco in Malaysia by the end of 2018, with it controlling its own network deployment and coverage throughout Malaysia.
