Many of us are prepping for the arrival of the new Macbook Pro and its magical Touch Bar. But according to reports, the new Apple laptop has limitations that some of its predecessors did not.
The first major limitation is the 16GB cap on RAM. That’s right. Even if you wanted 32GB or 64GB, no amount of money could make that happen.
9to5Mac confirmed that in an email sent by Apple, which states:
“To put more than 16GB of fast RAM into a notebook design at this time would require a memory system that consumes much more power and wouldn’t be efficient enough for a notebook. I hope you check out this new generation MacBook Pro, it really is an incredible system.”
So while you might not get the amount of system memory you want, you can be assured of its 10-hour battery life.
The other thing MacBook Pro shoppers might want to look into is the SSD. The good news is that the SSD isn’t soldered into any PCB – it is totally modular and can be replaced by anyone with a guide on how to tear the laptop down.
The problem is that the connector on that SSD is proprietary. While Apple hasn’t revealed any plans on selling larger SSDs that would fit, you can be assured that buying your own M.2 or SATA III SSD won’t solve your storage problems down the line.
