Twitter had recently announced that a special body called, Trust and Safety Council, will be created to counter trolls.
According to Patricia Cartes, Head of Global Policy Outreach of Twitter: “To ensure people can continue to express themselves freely and safely on Twitter, we must provide more tools and policies. With hundreds of millions of Tweets sent per day, the volume of content on Twitter is massive, which makes it extraordinarily complex to strike the right balance between fighting abuse and speaking truth to power.”
The council was developed to ensure its 320 million users feel safe expressing themselves on Twitter. Aside from protecting users from internet trolls, Twitter will also be taking a global and inclusive approach to hear a diversity of voices from organisations such as safety advocates and community groups. Twitter will have more than 40 organisations and experts from 13 different regions joining its bandwagon for the safety council.
