Twitter finally added a feature that was previously only available on its website to its Mac app users.
Those on the Mac app will now be able to enjoy a live stream of tweets as they come, unlike before. This feature avoids the need for users to manually update their timeline.
This feature was popular on third-party Twitter clients, like Tweetbot. For some reason, Twitter decided to disable this feature for everyone when it had changes made to its API back in 2018.
While the feature has already been on live on its native website, it wasn’t until now that its Mac app got the same treatment.
Even Twitter posted a tweet celebrating the feature’s arrival on the Mac app:
What’s that new button in your timeline settings ✨ on Twitter for Mac? It’s a “Pin to top” toggle!
Turning it on will keep you at the top of your timeline and let the latest Tweets stream in –– no need to manually refresh your timeline.

As I have a Mac myself, I simply updated Twitter to its latest version and clicked on the star icon at the top of the app.
After that, I toggled the “Pin to top” option on, and, much like its website counterpart, I started receiving tweets as they come.
This was the only reason why I kept using the website version and didn’t bother using the app, until now. It’d be great if they can add this feature to their iOS app as well. For convenience’s sake, you know.
The update is only available for those using the latest version, macOS Catalina. If you haven’t updated already and want this feature on your Twitter app, now’s the time to do so.
